My monitor goes on and off when playing fallout new vegas

Hello,
When playing Fall Out New Vegas, right after the opening cinematic after 1 minute my monitor goes turns off for a few seconds then comes back on. The monitor then consistently turns off and on by itself. The power light remains blue while the screen goes black, if it was truly off it would have no light or would be orange if in sleep mode. When I exited the game it still happened while browsing on google chrome and even if the computer was being idle. I tried restarting my PC, it still happened randomly even on start-up while windows was booting. I shut down the PC then the problems went away but I'm scared my GPU or any hardware is now faulty and I'm also wondering how I can play fallout NV without this happening? Someone please help me.

I'm using a Viewsonic LED monitor and my nvidia driver is 275.33 and I'm on the latest fallout NV patch.

looks like low specification GPU to me.
You may also try to update your GPU driver to the latest/stable version.

 

did you check the cables?
maybe one got loose after you made a fus ro dah on that PC when you died or something
