    Hello,

My name is dove. I have the My Way Search Assistant in the Add\Removes, and no way to remove it.

I have done the Belarc and the Hijack This log and they are attached.

I do have some programs and start ups put on disable or manual, to let you know in advance of this.

I am not a computer guru, but I do know quite a bit about my own system, and how to fix it. Except that program up there.

If anyone can help, it would be appreciated very much.

    Thanks,
    dove

Please do not post logs unless they are requested. Read the announcements and sticky threads.

Click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This will open the registry editor.

Now navigate to the below key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

How is My Way Search Assistant listed? Is it spelled out or abbreviated? Give me the exact word for word, space for space spelling.

    Hi,

First off, I went to Start, Run and typed cmd; as you said. That opened up a command line box. So I went to Start, Run, and typed Regedit, and got the Registry Editor. Went down to where you said, and the program isnt listed.

I have already removed the program, but the listing wont remove from the add\removes.

And as far as the logs, I had read prior messages and did what they had said to do, sorry.

Download the Registry Search Tool from here:

    http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/vbsfiles/RegSrch.zip

Unzip to your Desktop and double click on regsrch.vbs
(if you have script protection, please allow this to run)

In the dialog that opens enter the following:

    Search Assistant

    Press 'OK'

The search will run for a while then alert you when it is finished.

Press 'OK' and copy the contents of the WordPad window and post in this thread.

If the above search string does not locate what we are looking for try: My Web
    Then try searching for: 00A6FAF1-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D

You can also try the below:
Look for this folder and delete if found: C:\Program Files\MyWaySA
Look for the following file: C:\Windows\Installer\62e8.msi and if found, try right clicking on it and select uninstall.

Attached is the Regsrch info you asked for.

I did as you said for the My Web, and the file and the folder. None there.

I dont know if it makes a difference, but this is a Dell Windows XP Pro System; just recently bought.

    Thanks,
    dove

Yes that does make a difference because Dell is guilty of putting MyWay stuff on your PC.

    Try the following:

Copy the contents of the below Quote Box to Notepad. Then click File and then Save As. Change the Save as Type to All Files. Name the file fixMW.reg and then click save. (make sure you save it somewhere you can find it. Saving it to your Desktop may make that easy.) Then double-click on the fixMW.reg file on your desktop (or locate it with Windows Explorer and double click on it if not saved to the Desktop) and when it prompts to Add in to the registry, say yes
Let me know if this fixes the problem with MyWay

Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU!!!

The last info you gave me did the job, perfectly! Now, since that is a(or almost)a registry file, that you had me make; where should I save it to? Any specific place?

And why is Dell doing this, my first comp had Windows XP Home on it, and didnt have the MyWay bs.

Thanks again, Your one in a million,
    dove

If you mean for permanent storage, save it anywhere you will be able to find it if you need it again.

I cannot answer for Dell, but if you talk to them they will deny that it is a problem.
