Hi, just a quick question, I recently got rid of an IE hijack (Thanks to the help of the wonderful experts that help us all out in here :) ) and I am currently running Netscape on both of our PCs. I'm OK with either Mozilla Firefox or Netscape 7.2, but my wife and kids hate it on the other PC(theirs). They are used to their comfort zone. I have explained to them what I just went through with my PC, but it means nothing to them because it did not affect their PC. In fact, they got irritated because I spent alot of time in here working this thing out, so I want to avoid that situation again, but they are not use to the new browser and I'm sick of them complaining. About ready to just let them get something and see how they like it when IE won't work at all, but don't feel like listening to the squabble about spending too much time at the PC. My question is, is Avant or MyIE2 any more secure than running IE open?

Avant, MyIE2 and many others use the IE shell, without IE they would not work. While these add ons for IE add many user friendly features that IE is lacking, such as tabbed browsing they do not make the overall browser more secure. They still support things like activeX, BHO exploits, trusted sites, etc.

OK, thanks alot, they'll just have to get use to a new browser then, because I had "fun" getting rid of my hyjack, but don't really want to do it again if I don't have to. I'll just try to educate them a bit more. :)

FireFox is rather easy to use and the look and field is pretty similar to IE. I don't know what the big problem is. You should find out what their real issues are with using it.

They're just picky, they'll get over it :)

The only problem I have is couldn't run Trend or Symantec online scans, but I posted in Software forum and a user gave me a link to the European Trend site which runs the Trend scan and he told me that my AV program would work as well as Symantec's. Just wondering if you have the same thoughts?

The READ ME FIRST already gave you that. In the READ ME, it has the following line:

NOTE: If using a non-IE browser, you can use Trend Micro's online scan with Java located HERE

You are going to find that for many sites you may need to use IE for it to work at all or to get full functionality. When using MS update, you will need IE too.
