nagging update

Ok so windows updates is nagging me. It is a long story but I do not need to run it. Is there a way to make it stop?

 

this is if you're on windows vista or windows 7

if you want to stop the entire service..

open command prompt:

type: net stop "windows update"
---

if you want to turn off automatic updates:

go into control panel
windows update
Change settings (on the left)
Never check for updates (not recommended)

I typically use the "check for updates but let me choose when to download/install them".

If you completely want to turn it off though, select never check for updates

 

if you're on winxp, it's :

net stop "automatic updates"
