Nano doesn't work w/ itunes 7.4 and can't upgrade to 7.7 = Quicktime error!! ???

    I've got a new nano that I mistakenly upgrade the firmware on and now it won't work with itunes v7.4 ("Nano requires 7.6 or higher"). Consequently, I have tried to upgrade w/o success. After install of new itunes "Quicktime Error= Required to run itunes". So, I can't use a nano w/ 7.4 and I can't upgrade to 7.6+. Please help me find a way around this sticky upgrade situation.
