    Hello All,

I am helping a friend so the option to run a HiJackThis on her computer is null. Here is what was happening and what I have done so far. 2 months ago her computer starting getting pop ups. The longer she was online the more they increased. Hence we get to 5 days ago. Put a copy of my Panda Internet2008 on her computer...picked up lots of Trojans, Adware, Spyware, etc....Then ran a copy of fully licensed AdWareAlert on her PC. It killed thousands of cookies etc from the above programs etc....it loads and scans what is loading into memory. I cannot however use both because there seems to be some software conflict and I just don't feel like dealing with it to be honest. Ran VundoFix.exe and it came up with nothing. Then ran Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and it found nothing. i deleted her Verizon Software and tried to reinstall and there was a problem so there tech fixed it last night...took 2 hours. The tech told me that the pop-ups were Verizon's fault and the problem was fixed. My friend says it is still there.

About the pop-ups. I get on the Internet and for 5 minutes there is nothing, then one pop-up....some pop-up for CID OR SOMETHING. My friend says the longer she is on the more pop-ups appear. In essence we are not talking about pop-ups flying everywhere..but gradually appearing I messed with her IE setting and made it more secure....I am about ready to go over there and help her again using Verizon's Tech Support because I am extremely sick but want to help my friend. Can anyone suggest a free program to kill whatever is loading into memory and allowing these pop-ups to appear. Rest of her puter is virus free except for this one pop-up thing and its driving me nuts... my deepest appreciation.

    Mary

This is a highly UNRECOMMENDED program. Uninstall this immediately and do not use it anymore. Also note that cookies are not problems. See step 11 of this: How to Protect yourself from malware!

If you want to check this PC for malware, the below is the correct procedure to follow.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

lol Binary...0's and 1's used to understand it.....guess I've been out of the tech world way too long...I kinda like Adware Alert...it removes Spyware and Adware programs that others couldn't but i will follow your advice. Here is the situation...my friend "CHOSE" to sign up for one of those "FREE" websites where you can DL for free. I just found out yesterday when seeing what was attached to her IE and Panda firewalls...lo and behold this could have saved me bout 5 days. Disconnected it and no more pop- ups. I don't profess to be a Techie" anymore...I passed my certs in 2000...but it's fun getting more knowledgeable about the new stuff out there...BTW she is in her 60's so it was a process getting out of her what exactly she may have done to start this....when I seen what was attached..i knew instantly. Thank you for your help and I will check it out.... I use AdWare Alert....get rid of it?

If you like Adware Alert then it is your decision what you want to do with it. Just know that it was included on the list of rogue antispyware tools at one time. It was removed from that list but it is still far from being a favorite in any forums that do malware removal. In fact most will insist like we do on it being removed. They also still use multiple names and multiple URLs to push their software which is a questionable way of conducting business.

    Domains: adwarealert.com, webalias.com/spybot, spywarealert.com

Also another tool still on the rogue list was known to be just Adware Alert with a new name. And that is SpywareBot which tried to gain fame using a name similar to Spybot Search & Destroy.

Why buy a tool that spends alot of time finding and telling you how bad cookies are when cookies are not problems to beging with. And in addition, you don't need any special tools to remove cookies since your browser can already do it for free, and there are any good free tools that also do it.

Thank you...haven't been in the game for a long time....think I will get rid of it. When I was a tech, Win98 was just coming out. Much has changed.

Thank you for your time and advice...
