Hello - Would appreciate any help I can get on infected PC - even though not sure what it's infected with. Attempted to follow instructions as best I could considering state of computer - not all programs would work - ie. Defender. Removed outdated antivirus and plan to install avg and zone alarm if i can get system cleaned up. Initially needed to do everything in safe mode as system would not cooperate. Am attaching scan results and hijack log. Again, any help would be appreciated.

Start by going back to step 7 of the READ & RUN ME and follow the directions exactly as written. You have HijackThis installed exactly where we ask that you not install it. Do this before continuing with the below.

Now run the below procedure for SpySheriff but begin at step 4 since you already did steps 1 thru 3.

    SpySheriff (aka SpywareNo) Removal

Do not attach a new HJT log yet as step 9 of the SpySheriff instructions indicate. We will do this after the below.

Now Download haxfix.exe from to your Desktop.

    • Close all other programs including all browsers windows (this one too).
    • Double click on haxfix.exe to install haxfix. (standard installation path is c:\program Files\haxfix)
    • Checkmark "Create a desktop icon"
    • Click "Next"
    • When the installation is completed, make sure that the checkmark "Launch HaxFix" is placed
    • Click "Finish"
    • A red "dos window" (dos box) will open with options:
    1. Make logfile
    2. Run auto fix
    3. Run manual fix
    E. Exit Haxfix

Select option 1. Make logfile by typing 1 and then pressing Enter

Haxfix will start scanning the computer. When it is finished a logfile will open: haxlog.txt
Attach the contents of that logfile in this thread please. (c:\haxfix.txt)

Make sure you attach a new HJT log after run Haxfix!

Also, when the computer starts a box comes up displaying system 32 files - not sure if this is an issue?

Your problems are pretty severe and pretty typical of what people will get when you run your PC without any protection. You had no adnitvirus, no antispyware, and no firewall installed. That is why you are so badly infected.

We may need to run a few stages of fixes but let's start with the below and see what happens.

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Please run HijackThis and click on the Open the Misc Tools Section button on the open page. Then select Open process manager on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click Kill process. Then click yes.
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\eventwvr.exe
    c:\tool2.exe
    c:\Program Files\paytime.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\15.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\B91A.tmp
    C:\DOCUME~1\SUSANS~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\EA18.tmp

After killing all the above processes, click Back.
Then please click Scan and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL =
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = c:\secure32.html
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = c:\secure32.html

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    c:\secure32.html
    c:\tool2.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\SUSANS~1\Local Settings\Temp <--- delete all files in this folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00003.exe <--- delete all files in this folder that begin with ibm00 and end with any other characters.
    c:\Program Files\paytime.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\eventwvr.exe <--- be careful this is eventWvr.exe not eventvWr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP <--- delete all files in this folder
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\syshost.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\intell321.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\senssrv.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winbrume.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\fjpmceol.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\jhfoacal.dll

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

Now have a bigger problem than that - unfortunately it may be new computer time - this afternoon got a balloon in bar at bottom for a windows update - did the update and now computer will not boot at all - gets blue screen indicating memory dump and win32K.sys something - bunch of jibberish to me - in any case cant even get in safe mood or boot from original computer cd - any comments would be appreciated but think i'll be in market next week for a new computer for wife.

    Thanks for all your assistance

Needless to say, that was a bad idea. First it could have been malware tricking you. Second, it is never a good idea to perform any Windows updates while malware is still running on your PC. Typically this results in failed updates!

I think your only recourse now is a reinstall of your OS. If the PC has any valuable info on it, you could probably slave the harddisk into another PC and copy what you need off of it. But make sure the other PC is well protected first. Read the below:

You're welcome. You may also want to call your banks/credit companies now to check for any possible illegal activity. It does not hurt to check. If no strange activity has occurred, that's great and you can be happy that it has not.
