Hi everyone , I have just got a new computer , the current specifications of it are:

    Processor: AMD+ x2 6000+
    Graphic card: Radeon 1900xt
    Ram: 4GB (800mhz)
    Haddrive: 500GB
    CD Drives: 2 DVD r/w
Sound card: Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Fatal1ty

And I have a 350w power supply that came with a standard case , will this be enough to power all of these components? If not what Wattage should I be looking at? Even better could someone post a few links that I could buy for a decent power supply that will power my computer to its limits.
    Thanks

p.s I'm looking to spend about 50 pound on a power supply. thanks again people

Wattage is not the only thing to consider when buying a power supply. You also want to look at the individual amperage put out by each rail. However, with that system (someone else can correct me if I am wrong), you probably would want to use at least a 500W PSU.

I kinda like this one: (little more than $50) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3092557&CatId=1483

If you shop around, you can probably find a better price. I do not use cheap PSU's in my computers. Don't skimp here! If you buy a good quality one, is money well spent and should last you a long time. A bad PSU can fry stuff in your box! Don't let the 'magic smoke' out! :-D

There are lots of opinions on which PSU is the 'best', so hopefully some other folks will have some suggestions on which one to get.

Thanks for the replies. Fred_G do you know if TigerDirect ship to the UK?

    thanks again

I really wouldn't bother getting anything shipped that far, get a quality brand name unit like above. Antec and Thermaltake are two other excellent choices.

I don't know what your money limit is. But here is a PSU I recently purchased, It has 3 12V rails, of 22, 22, 25 amps receptively. Six SATA, 2 PCI-E, plenty for what I will ever need. $89.99 is the price now, but if you sign up for their mailings I have seen it twice in the last few months on sale. (with the Promo code) Antec BP550 I am not sure if newegg ships to the UK, but I would assume they do.

Dude your in England and will get the PSU Fred showed within your own country!! Show me some PC suppliers in England and we will find that OCZGX600w, no detraction from Fred's advice (which is always damn GOOD), but you can buy that thing right near you I am 120% SURE!!!

Sorry to just jump in here, but I'd recommend PC Power and Cooling (though I see they've been bought by OCZ since I last bought one of their power supplies).

I've used their power supplies in every PC I've ever built for myself for over 20 years, and in many "white box" servers built for small businesses... had only one fail, under warranty, during that time. They cross-shipped a replacement overnight in that case :)

They're more expensive, certainly, but well worth it, IMHO.

I don't like split-rail designs, nor modular power leads, or any "fancy stuff": Pure, clean, rock-solid stable power delivery to all components is what I want, and PC Power and Cooling PSUs do that.

    Regards,

    dj

I have to agree PC&C make arguably the best PSU but they also cost. I also agree with the comment about split 12v rails, I have the OCZGX700w and as soon as I added my new generation card (i.e. 4850) I lost system stability and had to back of my OC which was rather frustrating.

Good middle ground here would be the Corsair HX-620 which is a very solid PSU and highly popular. If you can provide some England online PC stores we can help you a lot greater.

Here are some links to get you started:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Power-Acces...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=210986291&pf_rd_i=561904

Here are some good solid PSU's from England suppliers:

    Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2

    Corsair TX 750W

Both of those should satisfy your needs but importantly be solid for any future upgrades (eg. Video Card).

Well be careful if you upgrade Video Cards as the modern series will tax the OZCGX600 12v rails, you may want to consider a model with a "single" solid 12v rail. As your system stands the 600w will be fine.

What do you mean by single rails and that? Could you post a decent PSU that will be ok for the future too. OR should I just get the OZCGX600. thanks mate.

What I mean is the 12V will be divided into 4 rails and delivered to the system which was very popular about 1-2 years ago but seems to be a limiting factor with more modern hardware like video cards that like a solid rail (delivery).

I provided 3 examples above but here are some more, firstly I will list the OCZGX600w so you know what your comparing against:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss...s=electronics&field-keywords=OCZ+600w&x=0&y=0

    Now for some others:

    http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/customer/product.php?productid=6210&cat=0&page=1

These 2 are far superior even though made by the same company and cost 15-20 pound more, don't try and save a bit of money and then suffer problems at a later date. Hopefully others may shine light on the PSU single and multiple rails question.

Wow Bold Eagle. Those are some sexy PSU's. And the second 2 have a 5 year warranty... I would get the cool orange looking one in the second link.:cool

Thanks Fred just for an extra 20 pound he can get a quality product that should easily last 1-2 upgrades and if it comes to the difference between a solid system or potential future failure I would spend the bit extra.

Here is one made by the same company for the same price as the OCZGX600w but gives a solid single rail:

    http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/customer/product.php?productid=6209&cat=0&page=1

But I would go for the slightly more expensive if you ever want to consider dual Video Cards etc.

Look I came across these today when bored and I really do hope you get that PSU, these reviews are from some of the best review sites on the net:

    http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...g-silencer-750w-quad-power-supply-review.html

    http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=374

    http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=2188

    http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/553/10

and these appeared without really trying hard to find articles, at the least have a look at the conclusions and you should be happy you have made an informed decision. Damn I want one but because I live down-under we have 1 store stocking at high prices and the Australian Dollar has "nose dived" so more expensive for imports, bugger.
