when you press ctrl+alt+delete, do you see it in your task manager?

if you do, end the process, then search for it with search, then delete it. that may work

    Your Welcome

Glad you got it all fixed. ;) You should check this out now: How to Protect yourself from malware!

Turn System Restore OFF and then once everything seems OK be sure to turn System restore back on. You need to get rid of any archived saves that may have the malware.

Do another HJT log and submit it.

Also where is the lsass.exe file located?

    Edit by chaslang:

Please leave the job of spyware removal to the experts!

While Avast is a good antivirus program, it has its limitations too like all AV programs. In addition, like most AV programs it does not focus on adware and spyware problems.

    Thanks!

As with many programs like this, its available on Majorgeeks: Symantec W32.Sasser Removal Tool

    TheOldThug,

Perhaps, if Betsy is still having problems, it is time to work thru the standard cleanup procedure and then on to a HijackThis log if necessary.

I asked her in #14 to submit a log. I saw that the lsass.exe could be a W32 so I thought it wouldn't hurt to run it.

Your right. Guess I got sidetracked with the first removal tool.

    The 3 most important things.

Procedure, procedure, procedure... or is that location, location, location. I may be getting mixed up now. LOL

It's the location of the procedure! ;) More often than not, it's the first step!
