Hello, i currently have a netgear wgt624 hardware version 3 and firmware version V4.2.6_1.0.1. I currently have cable internet at 16 meg. When i attempt to do a speed test my computer is only clocking 3 meg. When i hook the pc straight into the modem i receive the full 16 meg. Is there anything i could do other than buying a new router to get the 16 meg on my laptop? I am very confused...please help...

Question 1: Where are you with your laptop when you run the speed test?

Question 2: Have you tried a full reset on the Wireless Router?

Full Reset: Press and Hold the Reset button for 30 seconds while the router is plugged in.

    Hope this helps.

Hello, i was scared i had no hope, thanks for responding. I have tried diffrent methods on where i am located with my laptop in relation to the router. I have run the test literally right next to the router. I have already tried a full reset of my router. Is there any way that i might have to enable a certain setting on the router to receive the full 16meg?

When i run the test next to the router these are my results:
    Upload-1817 kb/s
    Download-3760 kb/s
    Ping-107ms

    Any suggestions would help. Thanks

I had the same problem with my netgear before i was forced to go to verizon dsl and they gave me a westel router( long story hate it) anyway when I had comcast I had speeds reported to be 12 but with the router i got 4, I tinker for a while and disabled spi in the router settings and went up to 8. I got scared and put it back because i wasn't sure if i was sacrificing security for speed. I can't explain it nor am I going to try but the spi firewall in this router limits your speed (it did in mine). Netgears support never could help me understand it. I'm no way an expert but test you speed with it disabled and see if it goes up. If it does then someone here can better explain why it does this, and hopefully find a safer way around this issue without sacrificing security. Hope this gives you a starting point.
