Last time you were here ( http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=126851 ) I gave you a bunch of instructions in message number 13 to follow. Perhaps you should have followed them. You continue to run your PC without proper protection Please complete ALL of the instructions in the How to Protect yourself from malware! link now. Then we will continue. It is a waste of our time to help you fix your PC if you are not going to follow directions to operate it safely. After completing ALL of those step, you should have done the below:
    • installed all updates from Microsoft
    • installed an antivirus
    • installed a real bi-directional firewall
    • installed an antispyware program with realtime blocking
    • and completed a bunch of other steps to properly protect and educate you on security.
After doing the above, attach new logs from ShowNew and HijackThis.

I'm sorry I didn't take it seriously enough before, but I have now downloaded and installed the necessary programs. One other problem I ran into was that when I tried to do the Windows Update, it told me I did not have a genuine version of Windows XP. I'm not sure what is going on... I've never had that happen before. After communicating with Microsoft, I am going to have to purchase a new copy of Windows (lucky me). I am going to go ahead and upgrade to Vista, but I have to wait for it to be shipped. In the meantime, can we still work on my current problem without the Windows Update?

I've attached the ShowNew and Hijack This logs.

Thank you - I'll listen better from here on out.

Okay that looks better and it should help to keep you safer. ;)

Yes. I'm working thru your logs now. To get you started while I look thru the rest of your logs. Start on the below.

You are using outdated versions of GetRunKey and ShowNew. You must always work from the current versions of all tools given in the READ ME. Download and install the current versions now but do not attach new logs yet. I will work from the old logs to start. But your next logs MUST be from the current versions of the tools.

What is the purpose of this next line?
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [C:\Program Files\1&1\1&1 EasyLogin\EasyLogin.exe] "1&1 EasyLogin" HIDE

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger.

Now let's remove a malware service.
    • Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.
    • On the page that opens, scroll down to Mesppanger
    • then right click the entry, select Properties and press Stop Service.
    • When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the Start-up Type to 'Disabled'.
    • Click OK until you get back to Windows.
Now let's fix some other issues including aPurityScan infection.
    1. Download this file - combofix.exe
    2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Attach this log to your next reply
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Okay I guess you logged out before seeing message # 5. Complete message # 5 and then continue on to the below.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Make sure you reboot after uninstalling the above!

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {466C1CAF-D362-ECEB-1267-FE8DBC578EEB} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\zha.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [outlook] C:\Program Files\outlook\outlook.exe /auto
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Hdrm] "C:\WINDOWS\ECURIT~1\ntvdm.exe" -vt yazb
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WinTouch] C:\Documents and Settings\Andy\Application Data\WinTouch\WinTouch.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SfKg6w] C:\Documents and Settings\Andy\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\otgotk.exe
    O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming.Net\PartyPokerNet\RunPF.exe (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming.Net\PartyPokerNet\RunPF.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it
double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
    Now run Ccleaner!

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. Avenger
    2. GetRunKey
    3. ShowNew
    4. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 8 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

I've attached the ComboFix log as requested. You also asked me about this:

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [C:\Program Files\1&1\1&1 EasyLogin\EasyLogin.exe] "1&1 EasyLogin" HIDE

1&1 is my web hosting service. They have this easy login program that is supposed to help you manage things quickly and easily. Truth be told, I almost never use it. I could uninstall it if you feel it is an area of concern.

I'll continue on to the next step.

    Thanks!

It is not an area of concern as long as you know what it was for. ;) However, rule of chaslang's thumb, if you don't use or need software then uninstall it.

Your logs are clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, and the C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
