This is my first post - be easy on me. ;) I've gotten lots of help through searches here in the past, but I've got some problems now that I can't seem to get rid of on my own.

I've already done everything listed in this post... http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 . Doing so got rid of quite a few things, but I've still got some lingering problems that won't go away.

The biggest problem I'm having appears to be with a file called ??plorer.exe. My Zone Alarm keeps popping up with programs (names are weird random characters - different each time) that are trying to access the internet - I've been denying access each time. Things I've read lead me to believe that this ??plorer.exe may be the cause of this but I can't seem to get rid of through the methods I've tried so far.

I also have something called SurfSideKick that is showing up in the Windows Defender and Panda ActiveScan that can't be removed through the scans I've done so far.

I've attached the log files that were asked for in the link I referenced above...

    Thanks!!!!!!

    Kathy

First goto Add/Remove Programs and uninstall Viewpoint Media Player as requested in step 0 of the READ ME.
Note: You copies of Sun Java and also SpywareBlaster are way out of date!!

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).
Please run HijackThis and click on the Open the Misc Tools Section button on the open page. Then select Open process manager on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click Kill process. Then click yes.
    C:\WINNT\System32\??plorer.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\FNTS~1\chkntfs.exe

After killing all the above processes, click Back.
Then please click Scan and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {EC3BC2AF-5319-04C6-1682-73E297777697} - C:\WINNT\system32\uriborx.dll
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

    O20 - AppInit_DLLs:

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sskcwrd.dll
    C:\WINNT\system32\wnstssv.exe
    C:\WINNT\System32\??plorer.exe
    C:\WINNT\System32\h32ypt.exe
    C:\WINNT\eSellerateEngine.dll
    C:\WINNT\system32\iAlmcoin.dll
    C:\WINNT\system32\uriborx.dll
    C:\WINNT\System32\uxrrtdci.dll
    C:\WINNT\system32\hqbozixq.dll
    C:\Program Files\FNTS~1 <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\Dytfgre <--- the whole folder

Also look for and delete the below folders which I left in a form from your ShoWNew log.
This could make them easier to identify based on the date. The question marks in the file/folder names represent unprintable characters that the malware uses to hide things from you.
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\
    APPATC~1 Jun 28 2006 "A?pPatch"
    YSTEM3~1 Sep 9 2006 "?ystem32"
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\
    PPATCH~2 Aug 31 2006 "à?pPatch"
    PPATCH~1 Aug 14 2006 "??pPatch"
If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Note for IE 7 users: You need to select Internet Options then the Advanced tab and then Reset Internet Explorer Settings!
Now reboot in normal mode and continue with below.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download the current versions of GetRunKey and Show new and then attach the below new logs
    - GetRunKey
    - ShowNew
    - HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

    Thanks for the help!

I followed the instructions the best I could however I did run across the following issues.

When running HijackThis, the following lines did not appear after I did the scan, so I could not fix them...

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {EC3BC2AF-5319-04C6-1682-73E297777697} - C:\WINNT\system32\uriborx.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {EC3BC2AF-5319-04C6-1682-73E297777697} - C:\WINNT\system32\uriborx.dll
    O20 - AppInit_DLLs:

I found the following file in Windows Explorer, but it would not let me delete it because "it is being used by another person or program". I checked and it was not marked as a read only file and I also checked the task manager and it was not listed under processes.

    C:\WINNT\system32\wnstssv.exe

I could not find the following files in Windows Explorer...

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sskcwrd.dll (there was one called "sskuknwrd.dll" but I left that one alone)
    C:\WINNT\System32\h32ypt.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\uriborx.dll
    C:\WINNT\System32\uxrrtdci.dll
    C:\WINNT\system32\hqbozixq.dll
    C:\Program Files\FNTS~1 <--- the whole folder

The computer appears to not have the problem with Zone Alarm popping up with the programs with strange characters trying to access the internet anymore (as far as I can tell right now anyway). However, I did run Windows Defender again and it still says that SurfSideKick is there and cannot be fixed.

What should my next steps be?

Thanks again for all the help!!

Goto Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the below:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6 <-- this is the old version
WildTangent Channel Manager <--- we always dump WildTangent so unless you really need this, uninstall it.

    Download - - Pocket KillBox

Extract it to its own folder somewhere that you will be able to locate it later.

Now run Pocket Killbox by doubleclicking on killbox.exe
Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click Delete Selected Temp Files.
Then after it deletes the files click the Exit (Save Settings) button.
NOTE: Pocket Killbox will only list the added files it is able to find on the system. So when you do the below, if some files do not show in the list after pasting them in, just continue.

    Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
    • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINNT\system32\wnstssv.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\cllv.dll
    C:\WINNT\system32\OLD591.tmp

    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But please let me know if you receive this message!).
If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.

After reboot, run Windows Explorer and delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINNT\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp

Now attach a new HJT log and tell me how the steps went.

Also attach a new logs from ShowNew.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

OK, I did everything you said to do above. I've attached the latest versions of my HJT and ShowNew logs. Everything worked fine - I got no error messages.

The computer seems to be working much better. However, I did rerun Windows Defender again and it's still saying that ol' pesky SurfSideKick is still there and can't be removed.

I also noticed that in my HJT log that it is finding a number of lines that say "(file missing)". Is that something I should be cleaning up too? Just curious.

    Thanks!

Because we are not done yet! I would bet they are in system restore. Where does it find them??

Go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

No you cannot always assume that. HijackThis has bugs (like all software) and often these are not missing.

Run HJT and fix the below two lines which are part of the malware we fixed in my previous message.
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {F1DEEAFF-2441-2394-4777-59F076C96FC3} - C:\WINNT\system32\cllv.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {F1DEEAFF-2441-2394-4777-59F076C96FC3} - C:\WINNT\system32\cllv.dll (file missing)

    Now exit HJT.

    These two:
are part of Bitdefender and they are not missing.

The below is from WeatherBug. DO you still have it installed? If not, you can fix it.
    How is everything working now?
