Nero / Burner difficulties

First off, over the years, I've been here quite a few times reading other peoples posts. You guys are a great help, not only to those who post, but to those who just drift by.

My problem lies in...Someone elses computer! I was using remote assistance via MSN, trying to help her extract and burn a cue file...and when I pressed "burn" through Nero, the CD spun for a bit, the burn process completed, but doesnt appear to have written anything to the CD. Now, as a result, whenever she tries to repeat the burn process, Nero asks for an empty disc to be inserted over and over. She's put in a blank CD, fresh from the pile, and it still doesnt work. I've been scratching my head for a few hours now...reinstalled nero, 3 times. Led me to try and burn other things its a CD/DVD burner...DVD's seem to burn fine, and CD's dont burn, even in other applications. Leads me to think its maybe a firmware problem? But thats not something I'm ready to screw with just yet...only as a last resort

Has anyone ever experienced a problem similar to this? wherein it wont accept any CD as empty and burnable? I'm at a loss Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I realize, bit of "my bad" goin on here, now knowing that its prolly a burner problem, I should have put it under hardware...but should I post 2 threads? anyways

Umm If in that its not working in another cd burning program, me thinks its not nero thats causing the problems. and the system's been rebooted a number of times since all this began, to no avail... I'm at a complete loss...coming down to either, updating the firmware *for which I cannot find a possitive match* or...reinstalling windows. She's gunna kill me...haha

 

Going to do the old...reinstall the drive! see what that does...back in a bit man Appreciate you helpin me *I msg's ya on AIM, but dont think your on*

Reinstalled the drive, still doesnt work. Now I'm on the hunt for firmware...which seems to be a lot harder then I thought it would be.

 

Strangely enough I had a similar problem with nero, to cut a long story short it resulted in having to buy a new burner. I know it snds strange but since then i dont trust nero at all and havent had any probs since.

 

well, got ahold of Sony, and in in an official way, the guy there suggested that the lasers might be misaligned...CD's screwy, but DVD works? I'm goin with it...so its gunna get sent in me thinks... Must have just been a fluke that so much strange stuff was happening when it decided to go nutzoid. More when I know what exactly happened, thanks for the help all!
