network vision?

been looking through some of the different programs available here, downloaded a few but havent found what i am looking for.
thought i would ask for suggestions...
want program that would basically show me who i am and what is around me. well in the sense that if i walked into a building and plugged my laptop into an ethernet jack. i know ipconfig in a cmd box shows me who i am and the default gateway. is there anything out there that does something like this?
