Networking 2 computers via a router?

We have two computers that we'd like to network. We need to share the printer and files. Can we do it through a router? :confused
They are currently sharing internet that way, but after much (frustrating :cry) searching I think we should be able to, but I can't figure out how to make it work. Part of my problem is that Computer one is running Vista and Computer two is running ME. Oh and I know next to nothing about networking, it's always been set up for me.

If they are connected to the same Router they are already Networked, all you have to do is to set the Sharing.

As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is allowed to be shared.
