When I turned on my computer today, the little windows new hardware device installed popup came up and said that there was a new device called "gsplittm". I have never heard of this before, can someone please help me out with this? Here's my hijack this log if it helps:

Well I googled it and it came up with some Trojan names so I'd run a spyware scan and a full system virus scan with Avast! or AVG Free edition, both available for download at MG.

SpinalTap, links for you. AntiVirus programs as follows.

    AVG http://www.majorgeeks.com/ download886.html
    Avast download http://www.majorgeeks.com/download1968.html

Are you running a firewall? If not try one of these.

    Sygate Personal Firewall http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3356.html
    Zone Alarm http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=388

Run only one firewall and one AV program at a time, when you are on the net.

All 4 programs are free. I use ZA and Avast. Other MG'ers use other combinations.

    Your choice, Bazza

If you want to clean your comp of spyware, the guys in the spyware forum will help you,but read the stickies first,If you cut and paste your log like you did here they will prob delete it,so post as a saved attachement, they are pretty big. ;)

I definitely support a combination of AVG, and ZA. I've not had a single virus since starting either. Odd thing is, ZA can't detect AVG as part of it's free AV monitoring.

I did a housecall virus scan, because I like that more than Norton for some reason, probably because my Norton is fairly old. I did an Ad Aware scan as well, and nothing turned up in either of them. I uninstalled gsplittm, doesn't seem to have been doing anything.

I also have been using Zonealarm for 1-2 years now... Thanks for all the help.
