Trying to fix my bosses daughters pc. Here is the issue:

When i first received the laptop, the desktop was completely blank and windows explore, control panel, etc. (pretty much all of windows functions) did not work. I went into safe mode and started cleaning out as much as possible. It has McAfee and that helped. Eventually i got her desktop icons back, most of the exe's are running but still no control panel, network and sharing, explore, etc.

I followed the instructions here for the "read and run me first" thread for i know it is just awesome at fixing problems and have saved me in the past many times. I accomplished everything listed there (had to go to start, run, then click on browse to bring all files over through the usb), save them in the appropriate place, and then run them. Still same issues. I was not able to show hidden files. most functions are grayed out to do that. Attached are the 4 log files as per instructions.

Please help the best you can.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You missed one of the first extremely important instructions in the READ & RUN ME. You have AVG8.5 antivirus and McAfee Security Center installed which is an absolute no no!!!! You must uninstall one of these immediately and then reboot.

Also you are out of date with both SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes. So just to be safe, let's get them updated and rescan. They probably will come up clean but better safe then sorry.

    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this new log.
Now run Malwarebytes and click the Update tab. Then click the Check for Updates button so you update to the current version of the program and database. Then run a new scan with it too. Attach the new log.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the new logs from SAS and MBAM
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Hi.. Thanks again for your reply, help, and patience. I uninstalled McAfee as you suggested. The other major problem is that the network and sharing is not accessible. It basically will not let me connect to the router at all so i cannot update SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes.

I took the easy way out. I was able to back up all the important file she wanted onto dvd. I then got the Acer Recovery disks snd just recreated the whole system. Took no time.

    Thanks!
