I have a PC that cannot start anything. ALL file associations have been lost. Was in the middle of installing Norton Internet Security 2006. It encountered an error then shut down the computer. Tried fixing the problem one by one through the file associations. Windows Explorer won't open. Tried the registry. Regedit won't open. Even tried changing the regedit extension to trick Windows. .reg is not recognized either. Full chkdsk /p done. I'm at a loss. Any ideas? Thx.

Have you tried restoring to an earlier version of the registry using scanreg / restore?
