    Hi,
I've been having the traditional problem of no audio driver being detected after wiping my computer.
I just need to find out what chipset driver and audio driver I need to install to restore the sound. I don't even know if this will work but it's the first step i'm going to try :confused

If it adds to anything I have Sigmatel C-major audio installed and in Device Manager it has a yellow exclamation mark next to it.

    Hi

What Service Pack is your XP at?

Please answer the below and attach the log as it will give us the info to find the correct drivers for you, as audio can be a pain as many OEM makers such as DELL, HP etc have the chip makers customise the chips to their spec. Plus if you have less than XP SP3 then you will need the UAA HD Audio update from HERE in conjunction with the Chipset and Audio drivers, and order to install is Chipset, reboot, UAA driver and then audio

    Hi

No, sadly, just wondering if their is a model number or name on the PC case at all, this would link to *hopefully* the makers driver page, something like iMedia, iPower and a model code.

But try this as SIS Chipsets normally are installed ok by the OS itself, so try installing the audio driver from SIS HERE (just need to type in the code to give you the download, unzip and install, then test audio)

then tell us if you have any yellow ! marks in Device Manager adn if so by what devices?

Oh yes, it does say iMedia on it. From a previous scanner that I installed it said that it was an iMedia 5070

    I'll try this:)

On the link I clicked on Windows XP > audio drivers but the only audio drivers that came up were SiS 7012 and SiS 7018.
I thought that I needed to install SiS 651 for my system?
Also, don't I need to install a chipset driver first:confused

    Hi

The SiS 7012 is the Audio driver the Chipset for SiS chipsets is built in mainly to the VGA (graphic chip drivers) so you could install that from HERE

But do mention what in Device manager is yellow ! mark as this will tell me and others what maybe missing, for instance if SMBus has a yellow ! mark then the chpset is definatly missing.

So should I download this chipset first and then the SiS 7012 or just SiS 7012?

    Hi Halo

I've tried to install this driver but every time I try to install it an
error box with code -536870397 appears
    and then it says
'Fail to install audio driver for windows xp. Setup will exit' and closes:(

    Hi

Try this as you get that error message and I hope you still have the downloaded file for Audio? and unzipped.

Open Device Manager and likely your audio has a yellow ! mark next to it, right click the Multimedia audio with a yellow ! mark and click the Driver tab and update driver, click No, not this time > click install from a list or specific location [advanced] and click next.

Choose Don’t Search I will choose the driver to install > then click next >
click have Disk and now browse to the folder you downloaded and in the XP folder select SIS7012.inf and click OK, if you get any errors then click OK or Next, reboot and check audio.
