Careful because you want to make sure you restore the files and not delete them.

Should be right-click NOD32 in the system tray and select Open Window. [Just realized you may have to toggle advanced view to see the Tools option. At the bottom left of the window is an option to change display mode. Click that to get to advanced view.] Then Tools icon. Then choose Quarantine. You should see a list of items that are in quarantine. Click the one you want to restore and select Restore.

I don't have anything in quarantine right now so I can't tell you if any more steps are necessary but I think it will just put it back in its original location. Just be careful to to be sure you don't accidentally tell it to empty quarantine.

I am not a Nod users, so I will defer to anyone with more knowledge about that software. But there should be a tab for the quarantine folder where you should be able to undelete them.

    Didn't see you there sach2!! :)

first of all thanks for your time.
the thing is that the specific folder was NOT sent to quarantine but it was deleted!!!
cleaned by deleting! so i can only found it on log files tab and there is not an option for restoring it!!

I don't know. I have nod32 but have very little interaction with it--very few threats. You have checked quarantine and it is empty?

All I can suggest is stop using that computer. Download http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/power-data-recovery.html install it on another computer and burn the recovery CD. Boot your computer from the recovery CD let it run and see if it finds the files. Then recover them to a USB flash drive so you don't overwrite the original data.

One last thought is if you have a flash drive and Power data Recovery finds the file save the file to the flash drive rather than the USB external. That way you do not overwrite anything on the USB external and can use that as another possible choice for powerdatarecovery to search.

If you have another computer available you could also try Recuva to take a look at the USB external to see if it can undelete the file. In that case you would save the file to either a flash drive or the other computer's HD so again to not overwrite anything on the USB external or the original computer's HD. [You don't want to install Recuva on the computer you lost the file on because the installation of recuva takes space and could potentially destroy the deleted file.] Edit: actually recuva is a portable application so it is not installed but you don't want to download recuva to the HD you are looking for the file on.

I say again, don't save anything to the external until you either find it or give up. I know it's been said a few times but it's that important.

Great! Glad you saved your files.

Good for you for having a copy on the external. :) You might want to pick an extra thumb drive and get in the habit of dragging the thesis folder onto it each day just for extra insurance (but don't leave the thumb attached to the computer). Small flash drives can be found very cheap and although it sounds boring, for very important files, redundancy is a good thing.

i was that terrified yesterday and today until i've found my thesis safe and sound that from now on i'm gonna keep copies to flash drives, sd cards, usb memory sticks or even burn a cd everyday with the up-to-date copy!!
many many thanks ! ! i'm gonna mention you on my thanks section...!! :D

    No problem!

I have to say, I've been using Nod32 for about three years and if I remember correctly it did do something like which happened to you when I first installed it. Some files just disappeared and several were quarantined without any notification. I only found the situation when I was looking through the interface/logs one day. It took my copies from other partitions as well and the files were definitely safe. Very annoying. "Annoying" for me, terrifying for you.

I guess I just excluded them from future scans because I've never had a problem since. It's funny because I switched to nod32 because I hated Kaspersky constantly popping up with notifications. I guess there is some benefit to pop-ups telling you what is going on.

Anyway, nod32 isn't all bad--it works for me in the background very well.

Good Luck on completing your thesis! :)
