norton 360 causing in-game ping issues?

    hello, my family just recently installed norton 360 to replace mcaffe as our anti-virus program. about a week or so after we installed it on both the PC and the laptop in the network, i would have random ping spikes while playing online games(exceeding 700 ms at times). it would start normal(50-60) but would continue to rise constantly. this would only happen every so often. are there any settings i can change in norton to fix this?
