Friend has 'puter with win98 and Norton Pro AV. She is complaining about access to Yahoo and other sites being very slow. This has just started, while the Norton has been there all along.
This 'puter is at her school, but she is only user. Could Norton have a recent update that slows things down? The computers are controlled by an adminstrator, so she has limited access to changing settings, programs, etc.
Any suggestion? Thanks and happy New Year to all.

Norton Antivirus is a bit of a resource hog, and yes it would cause a slowdown. There are free alternatives listed here that don't take up so much space in the system.

I would also recommend a visit to this thread, to ensure that she is free from malware.

Get her to very briefly shut down Norton on a safe but affected site. That will soon tell you if it's the culprit.

(if that helps, put in a good word for me to your "friend")
