I have Norton internet Security 2007. A "red exclamation point shows that I need a full virus scan. I have tried three times to do it and it is taking way too long. I know that I have over 300,000 files from doing other scans and after 4 hours only 75,000 files were scanned. So I stopped it and started over again and the same result. It can take that long can it? At certain points it is taking as long as two minutes to do one file.
I have a XPS Dell 420 with Vista Ultimates OS. Machine is running very efficient and fast. I also use Spy Sweeper, C Cleaner and Windows Defender.
Any ideas as to why the scan would take so long. Any suggestions. There are no
virus problems showing with any of my tools.

    Thanks, Schaeffdog

Probably just Norton. I see almost as many problems with Norton as I do with viruses.

Norton is really a resource hog though, even if it isn't scanning. How much memory(ram) does your system have, and do you have any other programs running when you are trying to do a scan? Although I personally would probably just get rid of Norton, I probably do have a little bias. There is probably a way, somehow, to increase it's performance to suitable levels. But, anyway, like I said, the first thing I'd check is how much ram do you have?

Thanks I got it fixed...Symantec replaced it with Norton Internet Security. It was a bad program with corrupted files. By the way I have 4 GB of ram and 3.0 dual core processor.
    Thanks for your reply.
