Norton unable to uninstall

I had/have Norton 2004 antivirus, the free version that everyone seems to get when buying a new computer these days. Anyway, I have been trying to uninstall it and when trying to remove it from add/remove programes it keeps telling me that I have a newer version of Norton and that it needs to be removed first, I havent installed Norton as I prefer AVG (this is installed now) and am unsure of where to find this Norton version to remove it... PLEASE HELP!!!

You didn't mention which version of Windows you have so I listed both links, the first one is for Windows XP/2000 and the second one is for Windows 98/ME.
