Nvbackend's Packages...?

so digging around trying to free space on my system drive, I noticed I have almost a gigabyte of junk in c:\users\(account)\appdata\local\NVIDIA\NvBackend\Packages\ ; poking at it, it's two years worth of selfextracting archives containing what appear to be various iterations of the NvBackend\ApplicationOntology\ directory. presumably, auto-downloaded updates to it over the past few years since I had to rebuild this machine due to a HDD failure.
the question is whether I can get away with deleting the older stuff in \Packages\ without breaking my OS or anything.

(search engine of choice) has done me little good figuring that out, mostly just seeing pages of "is this file malware?" stuff from years of people not knowing what those DAO.######.exe files are and shoving them through scanners/libraries/etc.

well, it did get me back a gigabyte of space(thanks), but doesn't particularly answer the question at hand, RE: \appdata\local\NVIDIA\NvBackend\Packages\ ...

Then I suggest you do some more internet searches on those specific files. I have Nvidia GE Force Experience and I haven't any more than 2-300mb of files in app data. Maybe because I use a disk cleaner regularly it wipes them.

I've been trying to figure this one out for a couple years, actually. But as I said, seemingly 99% of search hits I get are from people doing "omg I don't recognise this file is it malware omg"-type searches or forum posts with random examples showing up in HJT logs or whatever, not terribly helpful.

I do use ccleaner, but that location isn't one that it looks at by default. of course, I could set it up to look there, but doing that without knowing if it's safe first sets off all kinds of warning flags in my head.
