    Hi Guys,

So here is my situation, I've just received my laptop back from PC Specialist after being repaired. Everything is working fine as far as hardware is concerned. When I received it the first thing I did was to re-install my copy of Windows Vista x64bit. I have installed all the necessary drivers that came with the laptop originally except for the graphics card drivers as I like to install the latest one if they are available initially.

So service pack 1 is installed for Vista x64bit along with all the necessary automatic updates. I have downloaded the latest Nvidia driver that is compatible with my graphics card (Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS) and operating system.

    Which can be seen here:

    Code:
    http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/geforce_notebook_winvista64_186.03_whql_uk.html
After running the downloaded .exe it extracts the driver files to my specified directory and runs the installer. This is when I receive this error:

I press OK and then receive this error straight away:

I have had a browse on the Nvidia forums and found this thread where a number of people over the last few years have had a similar problem with other Nvidia drivers.

    Code:

I've read through this thread but don't feel comfortable with the two solutions there and especially not with having to remove parts out of the laptop. If anyone here could shed some light on a solution or help in any way that would be great.

    Thanks.

    Hi

Could you list any devices that have yellow ! marks in Device Manager for us?

Did you also install the chipset drivers for your PC? as in many cases the chipset drivers are needed before items like USB or onboard graphics are picked up and installed correctly.

What is the make and model of your laptop and do the manufacturers have chipset and graphic drivers available for x64 Vista?

I've taken a look at the "Device Manager" and there are no indications or warnings present.

My laptop is a PC Specialist custom built model. I have already installed the intel chipset drivers that are included with my laptop that are compatiable with x64bit systems. Along with that I made sure to install all necessary drivers before attempting the GFX card. They have supplied me with GFX drivers for x64bit systems and that are compatiable with my specific card, I have not installed these as they are just under 2 years old.

Nvidia had released beta drivers for my graphics card earlier this year which did install fine with no problems. But they are no longer available.

Re: Nvidia 8600M GS Driver (186.03) Installer Issue [Solved]

    Not to worry,

I had a go at installing the driver through device manager and selecting the appropriate .inf file from the extracted driver files.

    Thanks anyways.
