    Hi

Just received my new 22" Chemei LCD screen today

Got it working fine in dual view with my CRT monitor

But, while I was playing around with settings in Nvidia control panel
I set the LCD as the main screen
Reset the diplay options to default (colour, contrast, gamma etc)

and now all I get is the background and the mouse curser on the LCD
(no taskbar, no icons, no task manager)
and nothing at all on the CRT

I can right click on the desktop (LCD) and get the context menu
but if I select anything - nothing comes up
Its like the desktop is in front of everything else

    The windows splash screen shows
    the bios shows
but once it is started up, its just the background and the mouse cursor.

    Any ideas
Id rather not have to reinstal windows

No, don't do that. Definintely a last resort but hopefully you won't need to. I'm sure there will be a way to put it right.

I just googled Nvidia Dual View and found a microsoft article about it

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q232798&

If you hit ctrl alt del, does the task manager appear anywhere ? If it does, you could attempt to disable or stop the software that runs the graphics card. Also, you can use the Run command from there. (under the Applications tab, New Task).

I don't know if that is relevant to what's happened with yours, but one thing I'd be tempted to try if mine did that would be this. (BUT only use this if all else fails or you can't find any other things to try)

Shut down the computer. Remove the graphics card. Switch on the computer. Leave for a few minutes (yes I know there will be no monitor display at all).

Switch off the computer again (press and hold the On button until it shuts down.

Refit the graphics card. Restart the computer and hope that windows detects it.

    Thanks 12quid !

I will try the removal of the card thing

just wasnt sure what it would do is all (smoke and flames :D )

the microsoft link isnt appliable as I have no usable display on either monitor

I cannot view the task monitor or anything else.

Be wary of ever taking my advice with computers, but that sounds like one of your monitors is using the wrong resolution. Try adjusting the problematic one to a higher resolution.

    thanks for the warning ;)

    Its working now

If I try to shift the TV (TV tuner card) from one monitor to the other
it stops working (the TV that is)
which at a guess is something to do with the resolution differences.
I think that is what caused the original issue

    I have the 17" CRT at 1024 x 768
    and the 22" widescreen LCD at 1280 x 720
