Would this be a good board apart from the fact that its not pci express and ddr2 which i dont have anyway.

    Product Description:
    GA-K8NSULTRA-939
    S939,nVidia Crush,ATX,FSB2000,AGP8X5PCI,DUALDDR400,RAID,LAN.
its a gygabyte board and what cought my eye is the FSB :)
    The board is 186$
p.s it is hardware but what im interested in is overclocking and raising my prescott from 3 to 3.6 without affecting the FSB and ram and without having to play around with voltages...

Just get a elite group for 100 dollars more than what you're willing to pay.

has all next gen slots, pci-e, ddr2 etc.

i couldnt avoid higher voltage or higher fsb clock on mine when i set a 3.2 to 3.46, now i have it at 3.36 (prescott) and its a lot hotter, runs on 65 average.

get good cooling no matter what you do.

    good luck.

thats my board right there and my cooling. I hooked up the VGA with some nice heatpipe cooling as well and the box is air cooled set up for best possible performance (round cables + tucked away )
Im quite happy with my ram atm... 400DDR 2times 512 and a flashed 9550 series ati to 9600 pro. The thing is 200$ is the limit at the moment since im modding my pc as well and need to spend some cash on that as well so a bit struck for cash... I had the presHOT running at 3.6 stable as stable can be.. temperatures went funny the other day but i realised the fan wasnt working when i went into bios. Idle is 30 and full load after doom is about 55 which im quite happy with.
So you think it'd be worth waitting and spending that extra 100?

well its up to you brother.

everything will become cheaper within 3 months as we know.

and ddr2 ram prices have dropped big time, i bought two king stone 533's for 212 bucks (with tax but no shipping).

but as you said you're within a limit, and i know how that can be, too many things, too little cash.

if i was you, i'd honestly go with a cheap new motherboard so you can feel some of these new features. Maybe its just me, but i love running memory benchmarks and seeing how cool dd2's new two way transfer thing works, or seing a pci-e card running at 16 lanes.

excuse me if im running my mouth off but i havent slept in around 27 hours.

so lets say blam, you get the mobo right now, nice cheap-o, since you already have the processor, itll run you a lot cheaper. mine was 315$ cause it came with this p4.

lets say 250 for mobo (or less)

then in a few months you get a gig dual channel ddr2 for by then, probably 80-90 a stick, lets say two hundred to be safe.

thats 450 total, and you've just stepped it up big time.

then all you would need, is a pci-e card that is compatible with your new, high power cheapo taiwanese mobo. i burned out a 9600xt out of excitement and not reading it only supported 9500, 9700 and 9800.

i just saw a 6600 256 mb (not gt, so only 4 pipes, but i hear you can soft mod it and bring it up to 8) for...150 usd i believe.

so if you can manage....250...plus lets say 200 for ram...and 150 for a decent vid card...thats about 600 bucks (overestimate to 700 to be safe).

you think you can pull out 600 big ones within 3-6 months? i think it'd be worth it considering you would have all new mid-high/high end parts.

OR, you could get your mobo now, and wait 6 months when everything is 1/4 or 2/4 cheaper. it depends if you're running games or what you use the machine for.

one thing i noticed, wether its the mobo or the processor, the hyper threading is quite weak on it. you would also have to deal with the lack of bios features the cheapos have, i miss my asus.

    nice cooling btw.

dude, i hope i am helping you in someway and not wasting your time, did i mention i havent slept? :p

nah nah ur making sence and no i havent slept either lol
ill see how i go i might even just get the board then overclock everything...... ill see like you said everything gets cheapers as the time goes.. Beaf blah blah 6600gt the overclocked one i can get it for 400$ au i wanted to a month ago then i spend the cash on other things. i guess ill do it slowly
