   Hello:
   I'm using Windows XP Home Edition & Outlook Express 6. How do I prevent OE from automaticly opening mail? I'd like to have a choice wether as to open or not the latest message.

   im assuming you mean the preview pane at the bottom to turn this off click the view tab at the top then select layout and uncheck the box show preview pane and apply

   Also if not the Generals suggestion you may need to un-tick in.....
   
   Options > General
   
   Automatically display folders with unread messages at startup
   
   and in Options > Read
   
   Automatically download message when viewing in the preview pane
