Ok, so basically some file on my HDD corrupted because of a bad wireless driver I had (got rid of that card completely) so I had to reformat. After I did I can't seem to find my mobo documentation or CD's so I don't know what onboard sound I do in fact have. I know its a realtek and thats about it. So how can I determine what onboard sond I do have? I have tried misc 3rd party applications that didn't help me at all. I can't tell exactly what the mobo is or I would just check newegg and see in the product details what sound it comes with.

    Thanks guys,

    Slight update:

I have used a 3rd party application (Its just labeled as Unknown Devices) that tells me its this:
Nvidia Corp MCP61 High Definition Audio

However I cannot seem to find drivers for it. Any help?

Which 3rd party apps did you try? If you tried Everest, it should have at least given you the make and model of the motherboard. Or you could try Unknown Devices and it will probably tell you exactly which sound driver you need.
    Everest http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181
    Unknown Devices http://www.majorgeeks.com/Unknown_Devices_d3908.html
Both are totally free to download and use. You mentioned RealTek, but didn't mention which operating system you're running, so I'll assume it's Windows XP. Here's a universal RealTek audio driver: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Realtek_AC97_Drivers_d4400.html If your sound is hi-def, you may need the RealTek HD driver: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Realtek_High_Definition_Audio_for_2KXP03_d4902.html However, if you have an Intel chipset, there's a chance you'll require the Intel Hi-Def driver with the RealTek codec which is a whole different thing. To make matters more confusing, if you have HD audio, you may also require the Microsoft UAA Hi-Def driver in addition to the regular driver. You're best bet is to run Everest and find out the make and model of your motherboard, post that info here, and we'll provide links for you.

EDIT- I was typing this when you added a 2nd post. Run Everest and post the motherboard info and we can go from there.

Well I managed by a stroke of luck to see another post on another forum (thanks to extensive multipage googling) to see another post where a member was talking about his motherboard and mentioned the audio board that came with it. I downloaded the driver (more searching) and my sound now works fine :)

Also just letting you know, everest let me know the model of my motherboard but not the maker. I searched the model and found the post I spoke of above.
Thanks for the help anyways though man.
