Operation was attempted on something that is not a socket

Have the microsoft article that states how to remedy this problem and have used it successfully many times. However this time after removing spyware on the machine we cannot uninstally Tcp/Ip.

the article talks about deleting both winsock and winsock2 entries in the registry under local machine\system\currentcontrolset\services. Then firing up network properties, uninstalling tcpip and reinstalling it. then the machine should pull a new ip.

No dice, I cannot for the life of me get rid of tcpip under network properties. Anyone got any secret tricks for this that I don't know about?

 

uninstall the NIC. No NIC.. No TCP/IP to bind to.

ok nic was disabled(on board lan). going back in running spybot again just for kicks, keeps coming up with an error "xuron55.installdollars" says error and its in german lol. Says it can't fix it. Also explorer is crashing instantly. Also mcafee found polall1b.exe, can't delete or clean it. with explorer crashing I can't run much of anything....ugh.... starting to look like a format.

 

can you get to the repair console and dump that virus?

 

lemme see if I can Jim. I got D.O. on the phone as well. Seems we have machines that are randomly going to windows update and taking the instruction network down even though windows update is turned off. Oh the joy of it all.

make sure you're using the local pwd and not the domain pwd.

 

yup. Just did another scan, virus not found now. I don't get it.
