My bios shows "not present" next to cd drive when I go into setup. I have reset the cmos, made sure the device is set to on and jumper is on master. Also tried another drive. Same result. I guess the easiest thing to do would be to replace the motherboard and start from scratch. Anyone have any other ideas?

Well as much info on the actual devices would help a lot.

List your system, or can I just make it up for u?

My Cardboard box looks good ay!

Yes, I guess CDROM is IDE. Are you setting jumper according to markings on the device itself rather than a generic guide? Jumpers are usually the problem.

Your HD is SATA? So you only have one IDE cable (I'm guessing)? So only one IDE slot on the board?

yes, jumpers are set as marked on the dvd drive. Only 1 IDE and yes the HDD is SATA. I could try a SATA DVD drive, but that doesnt really solve the bios problem. OH, I did try a different IDE cable and a different device. Didn't work. Any other ideas? I like a good puzzle, but this one has me stumped

Have a look at the IDE slot on the motherboard. Are there ant pins missing apart from the one opposite the notch on the side of the case?

Unfortunatly, no missing or bent pins. Great thought though. I hadnt even thought to check that. Guess I'me done. Found a new motherboard online for $29. Looks like that is the only way to fix it.

hey there yes the g280's are known for a variety of issues, relating to power supply and other components. We upgraded one of our class rooms then discovered an issue or two..

So maybe mobo also if the cable to the CD/Rom is the proprietary type this can get futzed relatively easy by just closing the case on the cable...

    good luck guy.
