outlook 2010 crashes when trying to send phantom e-mail

    My Outbox is empty, I changed my settings to receive only, but Outlook continues to try to send a message even though I show no messages in the outbox. Also tried some suggested fixes based on the thought that it is a stuck read receipt but could not find any read receipts that were apparent. Also my "sent" folder shows a (1) next to it Sent(1) like an unread message would look in the inbox(1) or unsent message in the Outbox(1).
    Thanks in advance for any help.
