What anti-virus software are you using?

Well, after reading your post, I believe I discovered something. I updated my AVG Free to version 8.0 on 5/2/08. I now realize that, since then, all my email received in OE show the attachment icon, the paper clip, whether a file is attached or not. My guess is this is happening because AVG inserts - I guess you could, attaches - a notice at the bottom of all incoming messages that as follows:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No virus found in this incoming message.
    Checked by AVG.
    Version: 8.0.100 / Virus Database: 269.23.21/1458 - Release Date: 5/21/2008 7:21 AM

    Are you using AVG 8.0?

I don't believe this is a bug in OE. I've confirmed that AVG can cause this. And, a change in a setting in AVG can make it stop.

Go to Tools, Advanced settings, and select E-mail Scanner. Mark your settings as shown below:

usafveteran, I have about 50 users with AVG 8 and none of them has reported this problem. They; though, have all of the M$ updates. Did you check to see if you have the 900930 update?

What are their settings in AVG (see previously posted image)?

If the 900930 update is not an automatic update, then I don't have it; I have not manually downloaded and installed it. My Add or Remove Programs panel does not show that update.

My view on this now is that it's not a problem. By changing the setting in AVG, my messages in OE that have no attachment are no longer marked as having an attachment.

What are your settings in AVG (see previously posted image)? Without that info, continued discussion here is not very meaningful. :(

usafveteran's response fixed my issue! thank you so much! But I do have another outlook issue, and I know theres an easy fix but I dont remember how to fix it. How do you change the outgoing message file size to a bigger setting? I send lots of pictures, and the size can be pretty big, I had outlook on another computer before and fixed it, but now I cant remember, and now it keeps telling me the server timed out. where do i go to fix this?

    Thanks for the feedback.

Are we talking Outlook now, or do you really mean Outlook Express (OE)? Outlook and OE are not the same thing.

There's no setting in OE which limits the size of files you can send. The "server timed out" message indicates this is an issue with your ISP. Contact them about this.

No, OE has no such setting. The only thing of that nature would be the option to "Break apart messages larger than nn KB", where nn is a number you specify. This is under Tools, Accounts, Properties, Advanced. But, I don't believe that's what you mean by limiting file size. However, you might experiment with that option. I don't exactly how it affects OE's handling of large messages since I've never used that it. I view it as a tool mainly for dialup users who need to break up large messages due to a slow Internet connection.
