    Happy Thanksgiving Week Everyone!!!

About a week ago my computer (running XP Pro) started taking approximately 13 minutes to start up...My usage has not deviated form the typical sites I use for information, news and business.

It spends an inordinate amount of time:
    • loading network connections
    • applying computer settings
    • applying personal settings
I did the Basic Computer maintenance (delete temp files, defrag, etc.) and the Read Me/Run Me exercises...Logs attached...

My last restart took over 12 minutes. Any ideas floating around out there?

Thank you for your time and assistance!!

    1. Important Notice: A new version of SUPERAntiSpyware is available.
    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this log later.

    2. Also open up Malware Bytes and perform an update > re-scan > fix anything it finds and attach the log it creates into your next reply regardless of whether it finds anything or not I still wish to see the log.

    3. FYI: You have combofix running from the wrong location:

Before we continue it should now be moved to:

    C:\Users\Sew\Desktop/combofix.exe

Also your MGlogs.zip is incomplete, however it's also slightly out of date now too, so I shall provide you with a link here to download the new copy, then I want you to run it again, (refer to this section for any possible error messages:) Using MGTools scroll down to error messages section.

    Link to the new MGTools:

Now go to this MGTools and download the new version of MGtools.exe. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one. Run the newest version and attach the C:\mglogs.zip file that it creates as well as the new logs from SAS and MBAM. :)

    Thanks

    Kes13...

    Happy Thanksgiving.

I hope that you have enjoyed a wonderful day with family and friends. Thank you so much for helping.

I must warn you my computer ineptness is monumental...

I need a little guidance...You have requested me to move ComboFix to.......... C:\Users\Sew\Desktop/combofix.exe.

Is this a file I create? I can not find a file named Users and consequently Sew & Desktop do not follow.

I will work on your other requests until I hear further...

    Happy Thanksgiving to you. :)

    Just navigate here: c:\combofix\ComboFix.exe
and right click combofix.exe and choose "cut" then go to your desktop and right click and "paste" Then Combofix will be in it's correct location.

Ad-Aware SE Personal <-- out of date and rather useless to you. I would suggest you uninstall it but the choice is yours.

c:\program files\KnowledgeNetworks\PanelApp\PanelSvc.exe <--- What do you know about this?

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

It is not wise to place any site into your trusted zone.

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    painfully slow start up...

This could be why you are not experiencing much stability and speed:

Windows XP requires a minimum of 500MB to run but to be comfortable you really ought to consider doubling your memory to 1GB.

Use Hijackthis to deal with the fixables and then answer my question about that folder and the file contained within.

    Thanks

    Kes13...

Still no changes in start-up...I could only find a 256M of memory to add. I'll pick up more.

Thanks for your help...I'll be gone for a few days...please let me know if there is anything else I can do to tweak the system....

No, delete the whole folder (the below bold folder) and get rid of it all in one shot:

Your logs are malware free, so any other issues that remain must now be worked out in the appropriate forums (IE: software or hardware)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Kes 13...I have completed all requirements of your last post...

Looking online for similar situations, I have believe it is some type of network disconnect between my computer and my server. There are a lot experiencing the same problem and a lot of solutions, but none that I have tried have alleviated my problem and a lot are beyond my experience level or some one needs to explain the solution in layman's terms...

Can you refer me over to someone in the networking side of MG?

Thank you again for helping me , especially over the holiday. I look forward to working with you again...just not too soon...

Gotta go...funeral at Arlington this weekend.
