Panda Cloud anti virus tool-- how to install without it's tool bar or other add-ins

I am getting a bit more sophisticated in installing software over the years. I read the agreement now at least insofar as it talks about how it is going to install a tool bar for me.

Does Major Geeks recommend programs where such installs cannot be avoided or removed. It says the tool bar stays and you can't remove it. I have not installed the program.

Please advise from previous users how they handle this.

No we don't. This is the same junk Blekko Toolbar that Ad-Aware installs and we remove that as junkware and a search hijacker that most people do not want. ;)

Of course I'm glad I asked. But the Panda prog. is displayed prominently as sticky on a question about free anti virus progs.

I've been having what appear to be problems with Comodo and Avira uses a pop up with a remove button that doesn't seem to work-- the same Rogue element is found over and over again. Then going to their scan it hung up at 3.8 percent. It was stuck on a file I couldn't even find relating to Nero installed ages ago. That leaves the older AVG and such-- perhaps Malware bytes.

My question is just trying to get something to work where I see my problems as being minimal-- no warez etc activity.

Which sticky are you referring to?

And note that I'm not saying Panda itself is bad. I'm complaining of the toolbar. Even Norton/Symantec and quite a few others are sticking these toolbars (like Ask and Blekko ) into their programs now and calling them safe search tools. While there is some small possibility they add some level of securiy, there search capabilities are questionable and they cause hijacking and constant complaints from end users.

Perhaps it was not a problem but you never attach a log in the other thread you started on this subject for TimW to look at. And you should not be so concerned about the color red as you should with how well the program works. And Avira is always rated pretty high.

?? AVG is just as new as Avira. Malwarebytes is not an antivirus.

That's why we have a cleaning procedure ( READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide (incl. spyware, virus, trojan, hijacker) ). No antivirus program ( free or paid ) is perfect nor is any antispyware program.

    chaslang,

About the log. I jumped the gun and took the program off. My bad.

From the A- group there is also Avast-- or is there?

    I'll try AVG again.

I went through the malware suite of instructions a short time ago with help from MG. The final procedure after not much found was to reinstall my Firefox browser with all preferences and such stripped off. I had a Mozbackup and then retrieved my bookmarks.

As to Malwarebytes, it installs like an anti-virus in the tray and my mistake
    for calling it something else.

I may have been wrong about the sticky but it had a full photo and looked like
it was part of the MG site.

    yes, found it:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/news/stor...virus_and_anti_malware_program_do_i_need.html

    Maybe not a sticky.

Looking up AVG just I see why I must have dumped it. It's a pay-for-after-trial package now. I had forgotten this. I've forgotten a lot of things.

It must be that developers can't depend on the good will of donors as they once did. Firefox must have started that way. And Linux is still going but I never made the transition and won't for a long time. Just editorializing. I still don't know what to do.

Correct not a sticky and thus not part of our Malware Forum threads. That was Jim's comment saying what he uses and that is all.

However I did some reading and apparently you can opt out of installing the toolbar. I did not test this though so you will have to check for yourself.

No! It is still free. We stopped recommending it back around version 7.5 though when it started getting to bloated and annoying. Its built in AVG Search Toolbar borders on being called malware by many people because it never uninstalls when you uninstall AVG and does not even uninstall properly when you uninstall it. It requires manual cleanup like many other search hijackers.

I still recommend Avast, Avira, and Comodo for free choices.

I installed Avast with custom options. I turned everything off except web protection.

Thanks for the discussion on this-- and keeping me away from AVG etc.

I'm back on the trail and flying without a net.

Avast didn't take but a short while even with all the stuff I turned off to
show pop ups down by the tray where it resides reminding me that the pro version or whatevs is better.

I used my trial copy of Revo Uninstaller Pro to clean it out. There were 50 some folders in 350 mb to remove. So much for that one.

I have no idea what your problems are but I think you are totally misinterpreting everything you are seeing. Free programs cannot be offiered without have some form of their own advertising and without trying to get you to purchase their full paid programs. If you do not like this then you should purchase all software rather than using free software. You may find that some paid programs even do the same.
