I have a external Seagate 1TB HD that is brand new. I want to use it to replace the 500 GB Seagate HD that is presently in my laptop compter.

    Windows 8 operating system.

I want to clone the internal drive from my Laptop to the 1 TB unformatted drive that is attahed to my computer via 3.0 USB port.

I bought EaseUS to-do- backup Home 5.5 because they told me that this software would do the job. I can't get it to work. Now they tell me that this
software will not clone to a drive that is not initialized, formatted and partitioned and also would not clone from or to dynamic gpt drive.

The interior drive is a dynamic GPT partitioned one. I can initilize the exterior one with Disc Management in Win 8 but don't know if it will partition the exterior drive to GPT format.

Can anyone tell me if Disc Management will do this? If it will then should I be able to clone the interior GPT dynamic drive to the attached exterior one?

EaseUS said I would have to buy their partitioning software to handle this job.

The reason went with EaseUS is because they said I could do it with to-do backup 5.5 software. I had originally bought Acronis True Image Home 2013 and it would not work and after contcting them they said it would not handle dynamic drive unless I bought their Plus software to g with it. I did not want to
have to buy 2 pcs of software so checked with EaseUS who told me that their single software would work. Well it will not.

    Thanks
    Tom

    Hi There,

I am not particularly familiar with GPT but a quick google brought me to this article on the Windows Website that explains how to create a GPT drive. Let me know if it helps

EaseUS has a disk copy utility which might be the best option. It has been a long time sinse I used it. I thought that you had to have a black disk with no partitions and it copied the partition over. ie after you copy your 500GB partition your 1TB drive will only have a 500GB partition on it. You will then need to resize the partition to 1TB. I may be wrong though.

    You could try Seagate's DiscWizard

    http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/discwizard/

    Manual: http://www.seagate.com/files/www-co...ds/discwizard/_shared/docs/dw_ug.en.14382.pdf

    Bootable Media: http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/201951en/?q=DiscWizard&language=en_US&fs=Search&pn=1

It might be easier to image the drive to an external drive using DiscWizard. Then you could install the 1TB drive in your laptop and use the bootable media to restore the image from the external drive.

DiscWizard will clone a drive too but I am not sure how well it would work using USB port. Here is a link to cloning from Seagate:

I don't think you will need to format GPT as MBR will handle drives up to 2.2TB. GPT is used for drives larger than 2.2TB.

Pardon the intrusion. @NameHere: we tend to try to link downloads to the MG download pages - helps the owners maintain the free forums. Here's a local link for DiscWizard - thanks.
