pc horizontal

Hi,
I was wondering if it is totally safe to put a tower (upright) computer on its side?

Yes, I have even had Compaq's that you could flip the CD drive bays depending on how you want the case to stand.

I laugh about this one every now and then.. my old company put our field techs through A+ training for a window's rollout we had coming up. So we're in this office (I was the systems engineer & and A+ tutor) and this girl asked if we could stand the pc up to make room.. I said sure and put it up. This older gentelman who got his A+ went crazy tellin me I was wrong becasue "the hard was designed to spin horizontal" ... little did he know that when the case was flat or "pizza box" style the drive WAS vertical and standing it up in a tower fashion made the drive horizontal.. but I was going to argue infront of the client or with my elder.

But they mount drives every-which way in PC now days.

 

As long as no cooling vent openings are obstructed it's fine. One note, if any CDROM drives end up being "verticle", ensure they have the small tabs in the tray which can be turned to hold the media in place while it's in the drive. Not all drives have these.

I still have one of these comps, sitting next to my computer desk, being unused. I'm actually planning on shelling it, and turning the insides brand new, but right now I don't have the time to do it. I actually kinda liked the idea that Compaq had with those things. I thought it was kinda weird that it never really caught on. Maybe I'm the weird one, and everyone else was sane for not liking them so much...
