    Hey

A friend of mine recently started his PC but when it reaches to the part where windows is about to load the PC shuts down, He tried alternate windows boot options eg. safe mode, by pressing F8 but it resulted in the same behavior as normal boot.

Whats causing this ? How can it be fixed?

    Thanks

Been there , done that ...if it won't load (assuming you've tried to get into safe mode ...last good config ...etc), about the only choice is to do a repair install ..boot from cd, start as a new install ...get to agreement screen (f8) ...it will seach for previously installed....it will find xp and ask if you want to repair or new install ... choose repair (R) ...it will look like a new install, but will leave all files and folders intact ...just kills the updates .... :) :)
