    Need some help or information
I am using AVG Anti-Spyware (free edition) and each time I scan my computer (once a week) I get a message as follows:

1 Trace detected in the following location
    HTLM\System\ControlSet002\Control\DeviceClasses\{a...

Can anyone please give me some advice how I can get rid of that Trace, what it does or whether it is OK to leave it alone.
    Thanks in advance , Lothar

    Welcome to MajorGeeks.com!

Cookies do not cause problems, they are legit files that are used each time you visit a website. I'm not sure if your issue is related to something legit or something malicious. I would however recommend you run the steps below and post your logs so we can be sure.

[IMG] Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
[IMG] Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

[IMG]After doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below thread to properly use HijackThis and attach the log:

[IMG] Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis
    • Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around..
[IMG]When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
    • CounterSpy Log - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
    • AVG Antispyware Log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy. - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
    • Bitdefender Log - from step 6
    • Panda Scan Log - from step 6
    • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
    • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
    • HijackThis Log
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

To BJGARRICK: Thank you very much for your quick and very extensive reply. I won't be able to do much of anything for at least two weeks as I have a pinched nerve in my lower back and can't sit down for any lenghts of time. But I hope that you will still help me with this problem after I get well again.
Again, thank you very much for your helping hand. Lothar
