    Greetings Eveyone,
I'm stumped. I have a Systemax N30W-14, PIII 700/550 mhz running windows 98 (I think). When booting the screen says "PhoenixBIOS 4.0 release 6.0 model N30W rev 1.05A" and after going through the boot process it says "NTLOADER is missing." I've tried the backdoor passwords like "phoenix, PHOENIX, CMOS, BIOS, cmos, & bios" and they don't work. I've tried seeking support for this laptop without success. Is there any software that's easy to use to crack the bios password? I tried opening the laptop and haven't gotten that far without the service manual. I opened the area where the internal wirless card is and found what might be the battery. It is black, square shaped, with tiny strips of metal around it soldered to the mainboard which reads "30W0105A BIOS 8E92 U37". I don't want to push my luck. Can anybody recommend where I can find the service manual? If at all possible, I would prefer not to take apart my laptop. Help Please!

You say you get the error message "NTLOADER is missing":cry I've had that error before with windows xp it seems to give you that error if you have a messed up windows install, so you might try formatting you hard drive and reinstall windows 98 and see if that helps.;)

If you don't have anything useful to say, stay off the technical forums.

What I think my problem is is that I can't change the boot sequence because when I press F2 I'm led to a enter password screen. I'm only given 3 chances to get the password right. By the way the correct error message is
    "NTLDR is missing
    Press any key to restart"
Sorry for that. Anyway, I can't change the boot sequence because it is password protected. I'm not sure if I should get a new hard drive. Can't a hardrive and BIOS be seperately password protected? Or maybe it wouldn't matter because it's the BIOS you'd have to bypass. Anybody got a hook up for my service manual? I googled it without any luck. I don't want to take the chance in disassembling my laptop without the service manual. I might break something and I'm on limited funds. Please let me know.

BIOS passwords are usually attainable if you know your motherboard number. Try looking for it here: http://www.biosflash.com/e/bios-passwords.htm

Why did you first write Win98 (I think)?

I think it is 98 because I don't know what is in the hard drive. According to the sticker on the laptop it's rated for 98. I'm trying to repair a friend's laptop.

Its not 98. Its eather Windows NT, 2000, or XP.

But--unless its booting to the wrong drive, the BIOS has nothning to do with this error.

    Read the link please.
