picture display problem

I have windows xp and I can not view or open any pictures. windows media viewer doesn't work and in folders the pictures don't display.

 

First thing I would do is a system file check before delving any further. Click on "Run" and type the following 'sfc /scannow' - without the quote marks. Have your XP disk ready because Windows will ask you to insert it. This will fix any bent system files that may be causing the hangup.
