Pictures & icons disappear!

Not sure if this is a virus or malware, so not sure which category to post in.

Just this morning, this started -

Open firefox, everything looks/works fine. Then all of a sudden, pictures & icons & "buttons" on the website I was on started disappearing. Then the the icons/buttons on firefox toolbar started disappearing, especially when I moused over them. The clickable icons still worked, if I click on the area where the image/button should be, the link would work, but you just can't see the icon/button.

Even the little x's on the tabs are gone.

Refreshing a page does not work.

I closed out firefox and reopened it. Everything appeared normal again, then within a few seconds, it started happening again, and here I am on this site posting and I see nothing except words.

It's firefox 3.6.13. Windows XP Home.

I will try IE & see what happens and report back.

I am using IE 8, and have been on here about 2 minutes, and so far, everything appears to be functioning normally. Nothing has disappeared yet.

So, is this a firefox problem or a virus/malware problem? Either way, how do I fix it? Thanks in advance for all your help!
