Short story: Must fix compooter!! What's this yellow plug thinger called?! (bottom right in this picture)

    Long story:
I need to fix my mom's computer and she wants the video capture working the way it did before the card fried. This means using the front S-video input which is really just a cable that runs to the graphics/capture card and plugs into this little yellow 4-pin plug. I need to find another graphics card with the same input to keep things stock, so first I need to know what this is called. So far the only cards I've seen with this are way outside of her budget.

    Thanks!

It looks a bit like an internal USB connector, not 100% sure though

I'd agree with McAdam. (I worked with a guy named McAdam once) Would help if we had a real tight shot of it.

Thanks for your suggestions so far. It is NOT a USB connector, just a little 4 pin clippy type lead thing, like a little power lead for a fan but bigger and 4 pins. I'm 99% sure it's not audio, and this computer doesn't have SPDIF anywhere that I've seen. I've seen digital audio leads, and this is definitely not one of those.

It looks like it runs from the s-video capture on the front of the case, which appears to just be the plug and not an actual capture card. I think the video capture is on the gfx card. The male end (the lead that plugs in) also had a very small molded "CMY" as in Cyan-Yellow-Magenta colors?

Graphics card guys and video capture guys... Does anybody know what this is called?

First off, that card does not have video capture capabilities. Nor do I think that yellow connector has anything to do with video capture.

Secondly, if you need some help with a problem then you'll need to give a detailed explanation of the problem, what you have done to try and resolve it, and your computer specs.

Until you do all of this, we really are just guessing at what you want.

P.S. - It is much more helpful if you keep all information in one thread instead of starting multiple ones...

Since ATI is dog slow I'll just say you attach an audio cable from there to your sound card or mobo if you have built in sound. I'd suggest you goto ATI support and lookup.

Sorry if I confused some, but the ATi card above is just an example of the connector I'm talking about. The card that fried is a Medion branded MSI 8889, GeForce Ti4200, 8x AGP. It absolutely postitively was also the video capture card for this computer. The cable that plugs into the yellow thing is also definitely coming directly from the S-Video input on the front of the computer that I have personally used for video capture. Yes, it's a video capture port! :)

I've checked some other forums and ATI support boards. Some other people were wondering about this connector on their ATI boards also, and a couple of people had used other cards on which it was connected to a video capture port (really just a composite or s-video plug).

Anybody know the name of this thing? Does anybody need better pictures to identify it?

P.S. - I abandoned that thread because it was asking for specific graphics cards. I started this one because I really just need the official name of this connector.

    Thanks again!

I might be wrong, but could it be a secondary DVI? as he said it was connected to front s-video port. It's probably used for connecting internal video cables to like camera card readers, s-video ports, and other things. Video capture is run by software configurations, I can get video capture on almost every port on my video cards, just need the right cables and set my configurations just right

that is called a VIVO (Video In/Video Out) connector......... back when the x800pro was really popular, if your x800pro had this VIVO connector, it was basically an x800xtpe and could be modded to 16 pixel pipelines vs. the stock 12 via a BIOS flash.....

I knew they'd only be on VIVO cards because they're for capture... but it's just called a VIVO connector/port, huh? Wow, what will they do next? Call the button that toggles the power something like... a "power switch"? ;)

well, it's technically a composite video-in connector and is used to go to the front-panel video input port found on some PCs, just like on your mom's PC, FieroGT42...... I don't think it necessarily has a special name, they just like using the 4-pin connector because it locks in place and won't come loose..... it's just old-fashioned boring composite video...... back when the x800xt was still being announced, it was assumed that the US version of the card wouldn't even have it; as it's a popular feature over in Europe.....
