please help new dsl modem giving nat type 3

ok lets see if I can explain this right. I have a netgear rangemax wpn824v3 router and a new motorola 2210-02 dsl modem (new just hooked up) My nat type is 3 it has always been open. router still says nat type open. AT&T says its not there modem doing it but I can hook up old speedstream modem and its nat type is open. So AT&T is useless and call netgear and they want me to pay 100$ for them to help me. I am trying to get my ps3 online thats how I know nat type 3 strict. I have it dmz and static routed i think LOL im not real smart here just can follow directions sorry
