    I've been attempting to clean up my mother-in-law's PC and wished I found the Run and Read Me on the weekend when I started on it. Instead I was bouncing all over the place looking for solutions.

    Prior to finding the Run and Read Me I've cleaned up the PC a _lot_ (MBAM removals, used SDFix to remove TVSServ) and hoped that the Run and Read Me would resolve the final confusing issue - but it doesn't seem like it has. I downloaded and ran the trial of Spyware Doctor (from PC Tools). It reports Trojan-Spy.Zbot entries as Registry Values and Registry Values to be Repaired (I have noted these if they are of use). After following the Run and Read Me process and getting the logs I ran Spyware Doctor again and it still reports Zbot registry entries.

    Not sure if the trial of SD is scareware to get me to pony up to fix something that isn't there or not since MBAM and SAS report clean.

    Before I consider the machine "clean" and return to the MIL (and scold the brother- and sister- in-law) I'd like peace of mind that I have completed the job.

    Anyway, after all that, here are the logs.

    And the MGTools log ...

    One more thing - the PC has Symantec Corporate AV on it and when I ran it (prior to the Run and Read Me), it comes up clean.

    For the purposes of the Run and Read Me I chose the "Unload Service" option. It has been reloaded and has real-time protection enabled ...

    If Spyware Doctor is not a paid for program, uninstall it.

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Now let's use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    o If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    NetSvc::
    crxtmrlcx

    File::
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\nycizap.reg
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\qyjynafy.sys
    c:\program files\Common Files\jeretebup.exe
    c:\documents and settings\End User\Application Data\tuju.sys
    c:\documents and settings\End User\Application Data\qaza.pif
    c:\program files\Common Files\kumize.bat
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\yqoq.bin
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\anuqaqeb.sys
    c:\documents and settings\End User\Application Data\zuqahovozu.sys
    c:\program files\Common Files\avututapaw._dl
    c:\program files\Common Files\ajaquxijag.sys
    c:\program files\Common Files\enahakycy.com
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\nodapidik.scr
    c:\program files\Common Files\lile.com
    c:\documents and settings\End User\Application Data\pysazuby.exe
    c:\program files\Common Files\tepec.dll
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\bijiruxer.vbs
    c:\documents and settings\End User\Application Data\luzaja.dll
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\ryqigad.reg
    C:\WINDOWS\evihu.dll

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    [IMG]
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combo.

    TimW: thank you for the assistance.

    I have done as you requested and have attached the logs that resulted.

    Will await advice on next steps to take. Thanks again.

    Please Run this: Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    Now lets try Combo once more:

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    o If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Drivers::
    crxtmrlcx

    NetSvc::
    crxtmrlcx

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    [IMG]
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now attach the combo log.

    Thanks for your continuing help.

    Windows Messenger has been removed as instructed.

    The CF script was run and the log is attached. I unloaded the Symantec Antivirus service prior to running ComboFix and reloaded after the log was completed.

    With the intent of being helpful I checked using msconfig and the crxtmrlcx service is still listed, although indicated as stopped. I've attached a screenshot if helpful.

    Let me know next steps. Thanks.

    This is getting weird. :confused

    Downloaded and ran SvcQuery as instructed. It cannot find the service (crxtmrlcx) - so no log for me to provide. I took a couple of screen captures and attached them.

    Just in case I tried crxtmr1cx but again SvcQuery couldn't find the service.

    Let me know next steps and other things to try. Thanks again for your help.

    Embracing my inner geek (and trying to be helpful) I found autoruns over at sysinternals which seemed to produce some useful info. See the screenshot attached. Since the line is not 100% easy to read it is the Services tab and the entry beside crxtmrlcx reads:

    I am hoping this is useful and may be of help. Let me know what you would like me to do next.

    What issues are you still having? If you go to start / run / type "services.msc" without quotes, does it show? Click on it and tell me what it says.

  12. FrostedGlass

    FrostedGlass Private E-2

    I don't seem to be having any issues with the machine.

    Ran services.msc - the service crxtmrlcx appears in the list as automatic and not running with no additional info on the left side of the pane (see screencap attached). I've attached the properties screencap for the service also.

    It doesn't appear to run and I am wondering if doing a registry clean with CCleaner may be helpful.

    If you want me to do anything else let me know.

    Change it from automatic to manual......

    Open notepad and copy and paste the following text in the quote box into the window:
    Save this as fix.bat
    Choose to save as all files.
    Doubleclick fix.bat and let the program run.
    A small black dos window will flash, this is normal.

    Now run CCLeaner ( both the cleaner and the registry --> make the backup when prompted).

    Then check services again and tell me if it still exists.

  14. FrostedGlass

    FrostedGlass Private E-2

    Well that did the trick. Followed instructions and rebooted machine and crxtmrlcx is gone from the services list.

    Let me know if there is anything else you want me to do as a final check.

    Good to know.......If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)

    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    OK will do. Thank you very much for your help.

    One final question: I had used SDFix prior to finding the Read & Run Me. Does it have an uninstall command line like ComboFix, or just delete the exe and directory?

    TimW MajorGeeks Administrator - Jedi Malware Expert Staff Member

    You can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or where ever you installed it.
