XP HOME, HOME SP1 or HOME SP2. The file you are downloading from Microsoft creates the disks. It's not the disks.

    [EDIT]

    Create the Setup disks

When you download the Setup disks, the download contains only one large program file. When you run the downloaded file, it extracts the files. You receive the following prompt: This program creates the Setup boot disks for Microsoft Windows XP. To create these disks, you need to provide 6 blank, formatted, high-density disks.

Please specify the floppy drive to copy the images to:
Type the drive letter for the floppy disk drive (this is typically drive A). After you type the floppy disk drive letter, you receive the following prompt: Insert one of these disks into drive drive letter:. This disk will become the Windows XP Setup Boot Disk.

Press any key when you are ready.
When you press a key, the downloaded file starts to extract and copy the files. Continue to insert the blank disks as you are prompted to do so until all six disks are created. If the process is interrupted, you must run the downloaded program file again to create all six disks.

Make sure to label each disk appropriately with the number that is specified by the program. You must use the disks in the correct order during the Setup process.

High Density disks that you need are floppy disks with a storage capacity of 1.44mb, the link SPD gave you is the correct one for the 6 MS boot floppys.

they look like this pic ( with HD logo in top right corner )

If you are using floppys without the HD symbol on then you are using smaller capacity floppys which is on 720kbs ( older 360kb could be floating around still ) and will need to get the 1.44mb HD floppys to make the disks.

Did you format the disks before using them? Are the disks blank as in empty?

Put the file on your desktop, right-click on the file you downloaded from Microsoft, select extract here.

    Start -> Run

    CMD

    OK

    Command Console opens

    type CD %USERPROFILE%\Desktop (press ENTER)

    type makeboot.exe a: (press ENTER)

After you have ceated the boot disks delete the following files from your desktop:

    cdboot1.img
    cdboot2.img
    cdboot3.img
    cdboot4.img
    cdboot5.img
    cdboot6.img
    makeboot.exe
    makebt32.exe
