    Started yesterday with an unexpected shut down while on myspace. There was first a warning of netsky worm when logging into my windows accounts,popups, change of desktop wallpaper to infection warning, then an inability to start programs--"program" has been infected and cannot be ran, etc.--trying to get me to go to bogus antivirus program. I had to repeatedly reboot, run avast in boot scan and delete files to get online to try to find a solution.At some point i tried to boot in safe mode and it would no longer let me.Later I was stuck on the boot menu unable to load Windows until i reset factory defaults in setup. Since then when booting it shows "floppy diskette seek failure f1 to continue and f2 to run set up utility". I have followed your xp cleanup and it has helped my computers speed as well as removed the netsky warning. The boot "seek failure" screen remains and I recognized the files listed on mglog log were popping up as suspicious earlier on avast today. Any help on what i could do next would be very much appreciated. logs are attached. thankyou

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Now let's use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Driver::
    zutgvs

    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\zutgvs.sys
    c:\documents and settings\dixie1of2\Local Settings\Application Data\lonbvw
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\vejemare

    Folder::
    c:\documents and settings\dixie1of2\Local Settings\Application Data\lonbvw
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\vejemare

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    [IMG]
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Just had a few issues while running these, don't know if you need the info or not so i will post it just in case

    still getting "strike F1 to continue F2 to go to setup" on boot, so i had to hit F1 when Combofix rebooted

    takes unusually long to get from that page to Windows user icon screen and also loading personal settings to get to desktop

    One window popped up while running MGtools saying
    16 bit MS_DOS Subsystem
    C:\WINDOWS\System\cmd.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\Symantec\S32EVNTI1.DLL
    I hit ignore

    Thank you for all your help so far and sharing your knowledge. I feel very lucky to have found your site!

    logs attached

    If you haven't already, please disable the Guest account in User accounts.

    You may need to post in the software forum for your start up issue. But let's do this first.

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
    to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Then Reboot. Tell me what happens.

    I would also like you to use windows explorer to find this file:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\BD0D3E0BF3.sys

    Right click it and choose properties. Then give me any info as to what it is associated with, date it was installed, etc.

    addition to registry was accepted, was a little quicker on restart but other than that i didnt notice any changes.
    Aren't the files Symantec and LiveUpdate associated with Norton?-You probably already know this-but i do not have Norton and have in fact had to use the Norton Removal tool in the past to clear away files that were left blocking my programs.

    I did notice my avast had turned itself on when i restarted(was turned off for the changes),but cant get it to "not-startup" now in the new startup control panel 2.8 i downloaded when cleaning. It has 2 entries and wont let me disable it. Let me know if this is an issue now or for further instructions and i will unintall it and reinstall avast(don't want to download uninstaller, or any programs, while you are helping without your approval)

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\BD0D3E0BF3.sys
    Type of file: System file
    Opens with: Unknown application
    Location: C:\WINDOWS\32
    Size: 88 bytes
    Size on disk: 4.00KB
    Created: Sunday,June 18, 2006 12:34:45 PM
    Modified: Friday, September 25, 2009, 9:55:13 AM
    Attributes: Read -only and Hidden both checked

    Nothing in Summary

    Thanks again for your time

    I am not seeing any malware. Other than you start up issue, which is puzzling, your logs seem fine.

    Are you being asked on start up to choose windows or the recovery console? This may need to be addressed in the software forums.

    Thank you for your help. Now i will go through your list of ways to prevent this from happening again. I'll let you know if it acts up again but seems fine now other than some really slow browsing and the startup issue which i will look for solutions for in other forums.

    You are most welcome...safe surfing and good luck! :)

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners.They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
