I don't suspect malware is my problem, but I would like to be sure.

I followed all the instructions in the malware removal threads and am attaching the logs.

My problem is windows explorer crashes when closing out of it.

    Thanks for your help.

There were a few items removed, but other wise you look clean.

I would strongly recommend that you clean up this desktop as it is a great place for malware to hide:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Carlo Bertolini\Desktop\

Go ahead and use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11"
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6"
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Tell me if you are having any issues.

    Thanks very much.

I did this. Still getting the same error (when I close the last open window of windows explorer, an error occurs. Sometimes it is bad enough where I have to kill the explorer process tree to get out of it - when this happens, there is some sort of crash error involving "Dr. Watson" but usually it just processes the error and I can reopen explorer if I need to.

Do you think I'd have to do a repair install to fix this and if it's worth it?

    Thanks again.

I would post in the software forum to try to solve your explorer problem.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

I will do so and see what they say in the software forum.

I will follow these final steps. Aside from the explorer problem, the PC is certainly booting faster. I really appreciate your help - wish I could buy you a drink for all of this, it's a great service.

    Thanks again.

You are most welcome.....( have you downloaded a different browser - FireFox? and do you have the same problems with it? ---> a question that would be asked in the software forum.).
