Pop-up Ads Malware assistance requested

Problem with Sales and Advertisement software downloading, repeatedly and pop-up Ads on husband's computer (8.1). Using Iobit Unistaller to remove the errant programs ... finally let me run some scans.

MGTools scan resulted in message "... System Denied write access to Hosts file .... Hijack this may not be able to fix this ...." Then gives instructions on how to find them and delete them.

Appreciate help in figuring out the source of this problem.

Viewpoint Media Player <<< Uninstall this

Re run Hitman Pro and have it remove all that it finds.

Fix items using RogueKiller.

Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7/8 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
When it opens, press the Scan button
Now click the Registry tab and locate these detections:

[PUP] (X64) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\BackupStack -> Found

[PUP] (X64) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SecureUpdateSvc -> Found

[PUP] (X64) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\BackupStack -> Found

[PUP] (X64) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\SecureUpdateSvc -> Found

[PUM.HomePage] (X64) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main | Start Page : http://searchy.easylifeapp.com/ -> Found

[PUM.HomePage] (X86) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main | Start Page : http://searchy.easylifeapp.com/ -> Found

Place a checkmark next to each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
Now press the Delete button.

...and the same for these entries on the Tasks tab please...

[Suspicious.Path] Rocket Updater.job -- C:\Users\Jay\AppData\Roaming\RocketUpdater\UpdateProc\UpdateTask.exe (/Check) -> Found

[Suspicious.Path] UpdaterEX.job -- C:\Users\Jay\AppData\Roaming\UpdaterEX\UpdateProc\UpdateTask.exe (/Check) -> Found

[Suspicious.Path] \\Rocket Updater -- C:\Users\Jay\AppData\Roaming\RocketUpdater\UpdateProc\UpdateTask.exe (/Check) -> Found

[Suspicious.Path] \\UpdaterEX -- C:\Users\Jay\AppData\Roaming\UpdaterEX\UpdateProc\UpdateTask.exe (/Check) -> Found

When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
Reboot the machine.

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.

Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.

The tool will open and start scanning your system.

Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.

On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.

Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running!

Okay.

1. Viewpoint Media Player - Could not find anywhere ... Searched via Add/Remove Programs, CCleaner Remove program and IOBit Unistall ... Where did I miss it?

2. RogueKiller - Could not find following in lists:
REGISTRY TAB
[PUP] .... \CurrentControlSet\...BackupStack
[Pup] ... \ControlSet001\...BackupStack

TASKS TAB
None of the four entries were in the list

RKReport[2] was not on desktop (or anywhere else I looked) Possible problem due to update prompt (which did not get when 1st installed/ran). Clicked update link and prompted to download free version with unwanted browser/search add-ons. Declined to update.

Clicked on REPORT button on RK dashboard and saved a RKReport_Del - hope that provides necessary details

3. Junkware Removal tool - ran no problem, report attached.

4. MGTools\GetLogs.bat - ran no problem, report attached.

And... for Viewpoint Media Player do this...

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Everything is running very well. Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

You will probably see another post from me today, as I am helping a friend clean her laptop. She was supposedly installing Mozilla's Thunderbird but instead downloaded something called Vostran (sp?). This is after her facebook and Yahoo accounts were stolen/hacked for the second time .

Then off to my 89 father's to help him with his 4th (yes! my patience runs thin) attempt to master using a computer. This time it's an Ipad because someone told him it was easier.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.

Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.

Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.

If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.

Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.

Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
